ICSI to award best governed companies on Dec 20

New Delhi: The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) will confer the "ICSI National Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance" for the year 2008 on two best governed companies in the corporate field.

The Award, comprising of a citation and trophy, is meant "to celebrate the collective excellence, identify the best among the excellent, and the first among equals".

The award function will take place on December 20, 2008 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

Vice President of India, Mr. M. Hamid Ansari will be the Chief Guest while Union Minister for Corporate Affairs Mr. Prem Chand Gupta will be the Guest of Honour.

Justice Mr. Ramesh Chandra Lahoti, Former Chief Justice of India, is the Chairman of the Jury for adjudging the best among corporate citizens in India for the ICSI National Award 2008.

The Jury, comprising of a galaxy of eminent personalities from Government, Corporates, Academicians and Indian Corporate Leaders of fortune 500 Companies, has already finalised the Award for the two best governed companies.

Some of the eminent members of the Jury include Mr. Naresh Chandra, Former Cabinet Secretary; Mr. T.K. Arun, Editor - Economic Times; Dr. M.B. Athreya, Management Consultant, Delhi & Former Professor at IIM, Kolkata; Dr. K.C. Chakrabarty, CMD, Punjab National Bank; Mr. Rajiv Chandrasekhar, President, FICCI; Mr. Y.C. Deveshwar, Chairman, ITC Ltd.; Dr. J.J. Irani, Chairman, Tata Sons Ltd.; Mr. Sajjan Jindal, President, ASSOCHAM; Mr. Ravi Narain, MD & CEO, NSE Ltd.; Mr. Rajnikant Patel, Former MD & CEO, Bombay Stock Exchange Ltd. and the Industry Captains.

The Company Secretaries of the awardee companies will also be honoured for their contribution.

ICSI Life Time Achievement Award 2008 will also be presented to a corporate personality for translating excellence in Corporate Governance into reality.
